Bloomsburg Softball Season Comes to End with Loss
BOX SCORE
SHIPPENSBURG--The Bloomsburg University softball season came to an end on Monday with a 7-0 loss to Lock Haven in the title game of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships. With the loss, the Huskies end their season with a mark of 38-17.
The start to Monday's game was delayed by two hours and 14 minutes due to rain. When play got underway, the Lady Eagles (52-4) rushed out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run home run from Amanda Roosa. The home run scored Ilia Lopez from first base, who had reached after a bloop fell between two Bloomsburg fielders near first base.
The Huskies were able to muster scoring chances in the first and fourth innings after lead-off singles from Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport), but Bloomsburg was unable to bring her in.
With the score still 2-0, Lock Haven exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth inning against Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) to seal the victory. After two hits and a sacrifice bunt placed runners on second and third base with one out, Courtney Hughes ripped a single to center field that would plate both runners. A single from Heather Johnson would plate Hughes and a two-run home run from Julie Robitaille would end the scoring for the inning and give the Lady Eagles a seven-run advantage that would last to the finish.
The Huskies finished four hits in the game with Reed getting two singles for the second straight game.
Senior Kelly Zarski (Paxinos/Danville) was named to the All-Tournament team for the Huskies. Also, coach Jan Hutchinson, NCAA Division II's all-time leader in career wins, ends the year with 1,041 career victories.
